Tips of extending the life of your arrangement

  • The Golden Rules (works for all arrangements)
  • Placement: Keep flowers in a cool room 65–72°F (18–22°C), away from heaters, AC vents, direct sun, and fruit bowls (ethylene gas ages blooms).
  • Water quality: Use room-temperature, filtered water whenever possible. Cloudy water = change it immediately.
  • Cleanliness: A clean vase = longer life. Rinse with hot water + a tiny drop of dish soap; optionally sanitize with ÂĽ tsp household bleach per quart (1 L) of water.
  • Daily check: Look for low water, cloudy water, soft stems, or droopy heads and fix the same day.
  • Hatbox Arrangements (in floral foam)
  • Do not remove blooms from the box or foam.
  • Hydrate daily: Pour 1–2 tbsp (15–30 ml) of water along the inner edge of the box so it soaks the foam—never onto petals or the cardboard walls.
  • How to pour neatly: Use a narrow-spout watering bottle or syringe for precision.
  • Moisture test: If the foam surface feels dry to the touch, add water; if it feels spongy-wet, skip that day.
  • Keep the box dry: If water hits the exterior, blot immediately to avoid warping.
  • Lifespan target: 5–7+ days with daily foam hydration and cool placement.
  • “Refresh Ritual” (5 minutes)
  • Remove stems, dump water, and clean vase.
  • Re-cut ¼–½ inch at 45° under water.
  • Refill with fresh, room-temp water (add food if provided).
  • Remove any new leaves below waterline.
  • Return arrangement to a cool spot; rotate daily for even light.

  • How Long Should They Last?
  • Vase bouquets: Typically 5–10 days depending on varieties and room temperature.
  • Hatboxes (foam): 5–7+ days with daily foam hydration and cool placement.
  • Lucite bags: 5–7 days with clean water and daily top-ups.
